Surface Up!

This is looking down. Pictures are very interesting when they are looking down.
And they are really interesting when you look straight down!
(That's Escher looking, isn't it?)

December Days in Afghanistan

Flying through these mountains is a bit dicey. But, hey, you're a twenty year old and invicible, right?

Or, you can just sit in the door, with your legs hanging out, and view the villages below.

Wow.

Hallelujah!

That's George Frederik above. Now, turn your volume controls to high:

Beautiful, no? Now, here's another version for the hearing impaired:

Merry Christmas!

We Three Kings

I was trying to figure out if this sketch was obscene or sacrilegious. I figured it was neither.

I have been wrong before.

Veni, veni Emmanuel

I really like this rendition:

Tsukiji (Fish) District, Tokyo

Here's the fish market in downtown Tokyo. Close by the Bay where all the fish are landed. It's a pretty exciting place starting at about 0400. Lots of work to do.

Christmas Is Coming

Time to get ready. :-)

Grandchildren Are Useful!

So, R and B brought their daughters over for an Xmas Tree Splattering. They were pretty good at it.
I think the results speak for themselves.
Merry Christmas 2009!
Peace to All.

Snow on the East Coast & over The UK

Meanwhile, I guess we'll just struggle along. Somehow. (We'll make it. Not to worry.)(:-))

Kitty Hawk NC

That's an actual photograph, probably not the first powered flight however. I can understand traveling to a sand dune to try this thing out, but, why December?

Spare The Air

There is apparently no "Spare the Air" in Brittany, France.

Across the Wide Missouri

My Brother John loved the Missouri River. His ashes lie therein today. I was reminded of his love for Missouri.

The wide Missouri:

(And no, I do not know what the Shenandoah has to do with the Missouri. Enlighten me.)

Stairs I Like

I dunno. I just like stairs. And, I know that they're not for the wheelchair bound. But, a ramp is just a ramp, whereas a stair is a STAIR!
It's an architectural thing.

Birds, birds, birds

These birds, in Nebraska
Led to these birds, in San Francisco

But, these birds oftime, lead to landings on the Hudson

What else can I say?

Ferry Building, San Francisco

In spite of the lethargy evidenced above, this is a very exciting building renewal. Behold!:

'Nuff said.

Cans, cans, cans.

It's rather interesting to see imaginative uses of the lowly spray-paint can.  And, rather disquieting also.

Just a nice recent image of our favorite urban city:

May we never see pictures of anything like this emptiness again in our lifetimes.

Infill Housing, Tokyo style

Housing is difficult in Japan, certainly in Tokyo. But imagination runs wild. Here is an infill project, multi-use with a shop at road level, and a nice spiral staircase for the entry. The multiple wires are typical. They are what hold Japan together during earthquakes.

Because We Are Always Fair. . .

Okay, that's the immediate family. I'm out.
New theme, perhaps, this week.

Another Celebrity Spotted. . .

I think that this galleria is in Milan, or Venice, or...

I am not happy

21 years old, I would guess.

We send these guys and gals into a foreign country, and then we have meetings to discuss what we are doing? (forgive me) WTF?

Maria Maria

Maria Maria is a Tex-Mex restaurant created by the group that started McCovey's, Bing Crosby's, and Joe DiMaggio's. We dined at their Walnut Creek place, but they're also in Austin TX, Mill Valley CA, and Tempe AZ.
Nice design, very thoughtfully done. A bit noisy. Good service. A professional operation.
Food is good, really good, and lots of it. We ordered too much: Seafood guacamole, duck tacos, chicken flautas, and taco soup. Interesting, widely-varied tastes; spicy. No salt, pepper, or hot sauce of the table; they're not needed.
Moderate prices, average wine list, nearby municipal parking.
If you have a chance, go!

Another acquaintance makes a magazine cover!

Does that make me famous by association?  (Just asking...)

If that's a betel nut, then. . .

what is this thing that so offends the powers in Hanoi, Viet Nam?

Suggestions will be appreciated. Use the "comments" section. Thanks in advance.

Someone famous lives in this house

And it's not me.

(Maybe I'll go hide under a rock.)
